Chiropractic Care Helps Back Pain
“ I was only bending over to pick something up and my back went” or “I wasn't doing anything and now my back hurts.” or “I can't tie my shoes or put my socks on” or even “I 'can't get in and out of the car without pain.” These are all common tales we hear in our office every day. Back pain is very common; in fact low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide and a major reason people miss work.
Our backs are a wonderfully complex network of bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints that act as a spring and shock absorber for all we do. Even our normal, daily routines can put stress on this system. For all our back and spine does, it’s no surprise that it is one of the most common areas to experience pain and discomfort. Most of the time, this pain is mechanical which means it is not from inflammatory arthritis, disease or fracture. Spinal bones can misalign, become stuck and when that happens, pain can result.
Many recent studies have pointed to chiropractic care as a safe, effective treatment for back pain. These studies also show that many patients under chiropractic care had a decrease in use of medications and that care helped accelerate the effects of physical therapy. Another study showed that patients experiencing back pain whose primary provider was a surgeon had surgery rates of 42.7% versus 1.5% of those who sought chiropractic care first. In a world where the ever growing opioid crisis claims 91 lives per day, chiropractic is a safe and effective treatment versus prescription pain killers.
As with many problems, cases vary and a thorough consultation and examination should be performed before a care plan would be recommended. If you think chiropractic may be able to help or if you want more information, please call our office and see if we can help.
