The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
While this time of year can bring loads of joy and smiles, it can also bring added stress. Parties, extra friends and family around, increased demands on the wallet, shopping and entertaining are just a few of things that can cause extra stress. All of this can take its toll on our health and wellbeing. Here are some ways to help you take care of yourself through the holidays.
Make sure to take some time for yourself. Even 10-15 minutes per day to focus on slowing your breathing can have calming effect. Take a walk and get some fresh air to help clear the head. A bit of exercise that you enjoy can also help de-stress and clear your mind. Realize it is ok to say no; you don't have to participate in every single event, party or activity you are invited to. Be sure to have a bit of a laugh too. Laughter helps to relieve stress, anxiety and helps to prevent depression.
You can also make sure your nervous system is functioning at its optimal level. Your nervous system regulates, coordinates and organizes all the other systems of the body such as the respiratory, digestive, muscular and circulatory systems. If there is interference to the nervous system from spinal misalignment, you might not be able to adapt to stressors as well.
